day 1

I woke up around 9:30 this morning after about 13 hours of sleep-but please believe I could have slept for 16.  I went on a walk around my building this morning and was excited to find a few little market stores and got my first of many "donor kabobs" basically an american gyro.  I also got 3 bananas, 3 apples and a can of coke all for 4.50 euros!  I went into a few other shops to get out of the cold and was glad to find that most people speak good english and that I was still able to communicate with those who didn't.

This experience is already so different than the last time I was in europe.  There is a huge difference in doing this by myself, with no security blanket, and I am excited for the challenges that are ahead.  But for now, I am confident that I will be safe and successful here.

I am heading out again soon to walk the route to GP--about 2.5 km and am glad that my mom made me bring my heavy weight jacket.
